Freight fraud is no longer isolated, opportunistic, or purely physical. It is increasingly organized, digital, and ecosystem-wide—impacting carriers, shippers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), brokers, and technology providers alike.

The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub (FFPH) was created to meet this moment: a centralized, trusted destination for education, best practices, verification resources, and standards that help the industry stop freight fraud before it starts.

Built and led by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA), the Hub brings together expertise from across the transportation ecosystem to reduce fraud, protect freight, and strengthen trust.

Our Vision

A freight ecosystem where fraud and identity misuse are unprofitable—and trust, verification, and shared standards are built into everyday operations.

Our Mission

To stop freight fraud by unifying identity assurance, cybersecurity, classification
integrity, and digital standardization into one coordinated, industry-wide program—supported by practical education and trusted signals.

Why the
Hub Exists

Freight fraud is rising because:

  • Freight operations have digitized faster than trust and verification;
  • Identity checks are fragmented and inconsistent;
  • Data is siloed across disconnected systems; and
  • Fraudsters exploit speed, scale, and gaps between partners.

How the Hub Works

The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub is built around three core pillars:

Provide clear, practical education on:

  • What freight fraud looks like today;
  • How digital and physical fraud intersect; and
  • Where risks emerge across the freight lif

Help organizations recognize warning signs early through:

  • Red flag checklists;
  • Dock and yard indicators;
  • Bill of Lading integrity guidance; and

Fraud detection frameworks.

The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub supports anyone responsible for freight, risk, or trust, including:

  • Executives and owners making strategic decisions;
  • Operations, security, and risk leaders;
  • IT and cybersecurity teams;
  • Shippers, brokers, and 3PLs; and
  • Technology platforms and solution providers.

“The industry doesn’t need more isolated
tools—it needs shared foundations.”

What Makes NMFTA Different

NMFTA is uniquely positioned to lead freight fraud prevention because it:

  • Develops industry standards and codes used across trucking;
  • Maintains authoritative identity frameworks (like Standard Carrier Alpha Code® (SCAC);
  • Conducts transportation-specific cybersecurity research;
  • Brings competitors together around shared problems; and
  • Operates as a neutral, nonprofit industry body.

This allows NMFTA to address root causes, not just symptoms.

Who the Hub Is For

The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub supports anyone responsible for freight, risk, or trust, including:

  • Executives and owners making strategic decisions;
  • Operations, security, and risk leaders;
  • IT and cybersecurity teams;
  • Shippers, brokers, and 3PLs; and
  • Technology platforms and solution providers.

If you touch freight, fraud affects you—and prevention starts here.

A Shared Industry Effort

Freight fraud is a shared threat—and stopping it requires collaboration.

The Hub brings together:

  • NMFTA programs and products;
  • Industry partners and contributors; and
  • Education, research, and standards.

All participation is education-first, non-promotional, and governed to protect trust and neutrality.

Looking Ahead

The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub is a living program that will continue to expand with:

  • New education and resources;
  • Deeper verification capabilities;
  • Broader adoption of digital standards; and
  • Stronger industry collaboration.

As threats evolve, the Hub evolves with them—so the industry stays ahead.

Freight fraud doesn’t stop on its own.
But together, the industry can make it harder, riskier, and less profitable.
