The third annual Freight Fraud Awareness Day is today, Wednesday, October 14, with transportation, insurance and technology companies urging the freight industry to talk openly about fraud and cargo theft. The campaign’s website lists Verified Carrier, Truckstop, Northland, Travelers, GenLogs, FreightValidate and Freight Bites as advocates. It asks participants to share educational graphics on LinkedIn and Instagram using #FreightFraudAwarenessDay and to encourage dialogue on regulatory policy and data sharing with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Verified Carrier initiated the campaign to get the freight industry talking about fraud on the same day. Organizers point to tactics that have reshaped freight crime, including stolen identities, compromised accounts, carrier impersonation, shipment misdirection and fictitious pickups. The stakes are rising: Verisk CargoNet estimated cargo theft losses in the U.S. and Canada at nearly $725 million in 2025, up 60% from 2024, across 2,646 confirmed thefts.

Keep the Work Going: Become an FFPH Partner

The campaign asks the industry to keep the conversation going beyond October 14. Freight fraud isn’t a single-company problem, and one awareness day won’t stop it. The Freight Fraud Prevention Hub (FFPH), operated by NMFTA, supports Freight Fraud Awareness Day and runs a partner program for carriers, shippers, third-party logistics providers (3PLs), technology providers and other organizations that want to stay involved all year.

Partners help the industry educate, detect and prevent freight fraud by contributing educational content, research, webinars and best practices on emerging tactics. There’s no fee to apply; participation is based on alignment with the Hub’s mission. Partners are listed on the Hub and take part in NMFTA-led education and awareness efforts.

If your organization wants to help stop freight fraud before it starts, see how the partner program works or apply to become a partner.
