The owner of an Orlando trucking and freight brokerage pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of money laundering in a scheme that obtained more than $1 million from the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced Oct. 9. According to prosecutors, Khayyam Arif Oglu Farajov, 40, enrolled Talishco LLC in the USPS Freight Auction program in May 2022 and, between June 2022 and January 2023, won hundreds of mail-transport contracts he did not fulfill, then falsely recorded the loads as delivered to trigger payment.
Prosecutors said he moved the proceeds through shell-company accounts into two brokerage accounts, which he agreed to forfeit, and he agreed to pay $993,979 in restitution. Each count carries up to 20 years in prison; sentencing has not been set. The USPS Office of Inspector General investigated.
The case shows how payment systems that rely on self-reported proof of delivery can be exploited. An earlier USPS OIG evaluation of Freight Auction found weak controls over trip payments and delivery documentation.
